Frank Tompkins Map of Columbus, New Mexico,

Abstract A hand-drawn, carbon copy map with original pencil notations by Major Frank Tompkins who was a survivor of the Francisco "Pancho" Villa raid on Columbus, New Mexico in 1916. Tompkins sent this map east to aid in his family's understanding of the battle. Tompkins later authored the book Chasing Villa.

George A. Viles Personal Diaries

Abstract Viles was the owner of the Mountain View Ranch, a popular dude ranch, near Cowles, New Mexico. His journals begin in 1898 when Viles took a trip to Alaska. They pick up again in 1912 and continue until his death in 1950. The diaries have been transcribed by Meredith A. Hmura who used them as research for her book, which is in the collection. Mountain View Ranch, 1915-1945, which is in the collection.
